Five schools with an overhauled calendar welcomed students again on August 2

The five Dallas ISD schools with an overhauled school day schedule proudly opened their doors to students on August 2 as part of a daring effort to catch up with students from the learning loss caused by the pandemic.

While visiting HI Holland Primary School in Lisbon, one of five schools with the overhaul schedule, Superintendent Michael Hinojosa greeted staff and students at the school.

“I have never been so proud of our students, staff and families for the way they have mobilized and responded to this pandemic,” Hinojosa said. “And these five schools that are opening today are pioneers in trying to make a big difference by making up for lost learning.”

In addition to HI Holland Primary School, the other four campuses with an overhaul schedule are:

  • Maple Lawn Elementary School
  • Edna Rowe Elementary School
  • Thomas J. Rusk College
  • Boude floor college

Dallas ISD has three different schedules with three different start dates this month. Forty-one schools with an intersessional calendar start school on August 9, and the other district schools with a base calendar start on August 16. Dated.

Alternative calendars are part of a a comprehensive approach the district is taking action to ensure that the pandemic does not have a lasting impact on student learning.
