Lamar School District Holds Public Forum on Future School Mascot Name: The Prowers Journal

Please join the Lamar School District School Board for a community forum July 15 at 7:00 p.m. in the Lamar High School auditorium to learn more and discuss Senate Bill 21-116 regarding the ban on Native American mascots in Colorado.

The bill was promulgated by Governor Jared Polis on June 28. This law prohibits the use of Native American mascots by public schools as of June 1, 2022. The bill imposes a fine of $ 25,000 per month for each month a school continues to use a mascot after that date. payable to the public education fund.

This community forum is an opportunity to learn more about the law, the activities the school board has engaged in over the past year, and the actions the district will need to take over the next year. We ask for your opinion and your contribution. To allow sufficient time for the views of all community members interested in speaking, the board will limit comments to 3 minutes per person.

Please share this meeting notice with others and we look forward to hearing from you.
