Northern Ontario News: Free Early Childhood Education Training Available at Area Colleges

Those interested in working in the early years and childcare sector are offered free training.

Several colleges in Northern Ontario will offer early childhood education training free of charge during the fall and winter semesters.

Sault College is one of the post-secondary institutions offering the program.

Organizers said the program is designed to interest people in a career in early childhood education. They hope this will solve staffing shortages in the field.

“Our hope is that with this 10-week program, individuals will get into the field, get them suited to the field, what to expect, complete their placement, allow them to learn by doing, and be able to enter and do their ECE, because we want to see those registered ECEs working in child care centers,” Lori Crosson, director of continuing education and online learning at Sault College, told CTV News.

Cambrian College and College Boreal in Sudbury, North College in Timmins, and Confederation College in Thunder Bay also offer the ten-week program.

Those interested in enrolling can contact the colleges directly.
