A private university’s community page has drawn attention online for its response to the recent ranking of universities in Asia.

Sixteen universities from the Philippines landed at the annual meeting Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) Asian University Rankings for 2023.

Of the 16, the top five universities include the so-called “Big Four” higher education institutions, as follows:

  1. University of the Philippines (87)
  2. Ateneo de Manila University (134)
  3. La Salle University (171)
  4. University of Santo Tomas (175)
  5. Ateneo de Davao University (551-600)

The inclusion of 16 schools in the Philippines in the regional ranking in Asia is an achievement that has been hailed on social media.

social media page A Mapuahowever, expressed his frustration about it jokingly.

One Mapua is a community page for events and news related to Mapoua University.

“Anobayan”, the page joked in a quote-retweet to a report about it.

One Mapua went on to express their feelings about their QS Asia placement in two separate tweets.

A Mapua referred to the successful recognition of the University of Mapua in another respected organization – the Times Higher Education World University Rankings which was reported last October.

Mapua placed in the 1501+ brackets with scores of 10.4 to 18.3.

It was seated next to the following three “Big Four” universities:

  • Ateneo de Manila University (Band 351-400)
  • University of the Philippines (Band 801-1000)
  • La Salle University (1201-1500)

The University of Santo Tomas didn’t make the cut.
