Somerset CCC new community partnership with Young Somerset

SOMERSET County Cricket Club has announced a brand new community partnership with Young Somerset.

Young Somerset is Somerset’s largest youth charity and its aim is to work with young people and encourage them to empower themselves whilst being actively involved in shaping the communities in which they live.

Somerset County Cricket Club, in conjunction with the Somerset Cricket Foundation, will work alongside Young Somerset to help the charity engage and support young people.

This will cover a range of social, economic, educational and recreational opportunities designed to encourage social inclusion and lifelong learning.

As part of the initiative, Somerset 2023 members will receive a 10% discount at Young Somerset’s Bold & Brave boutique at Riverside Place in the independent Taunton area.

Bold & Brave sells unique artisan products and local products, all made by young people or to support young people.

It also acts as a community hub, social enterprise space, and place that provides opportunities for young people to have visible retail roles while gaining work experience and life skills training.

Commenting on the partnership, Nik Harwood, CEO of Young Somerset, said: “Young Somerset is delighted to partner with Somerset County Cricket Club and the Somerset Cricket Foundation and are delighted to begin exploring more opportunities to work together.

“Community partnerships are essential for us to increase our ability to reach more people and improve our work supporting young people.

“We know the value of collaboration at Young Somerset and we want to work together to develop new innovative initiatives.”

Spencer Bishop, SCCC Media and Community Manager, added: “The Somerset County Cricket Club and the Somerset Cricket Foundation look forward to working with Young Somerset to help local young people achieve their goals.

“There are a number of avenues we are looking to explore through this initiative, and we are excited to see what we can accomplish together to benefit future generations.

Young Somerset seeks to achieve this goal by focusing on three specific service areas:

n Targeted support for young people

n Offer of alternative education and enterprise

n Emotional well-being and mental health support and therapy
